Replacement Bag Straps
Saint Laurent Tote Bag
The surface on the leather on the Saint Laurent bag below had started to ‘peel’ where the straps are held. The natural oils in the hands reacted with the surface coating on the leather. I suggested to the customer to create new straps from an Italian vegetable tanned leather as the peeling wont happen on this type of leather.
By Malene Birger Tote Bag
The leather that had been used for the handles on this tote bag wasn’t the strongest and the straps with repeated use had snapped where they attached to the bags. I created new straps from an Italian vegetable tanned leather. This type of leather is thick and has excellent strength so is perfect for handles.
Coach Bag
The straps on the Coach bag below had broken over time. Instead of patching up the original straps we decided to put new straps on the bag and I used the Italian vegetable tanned leather.
Lengthening / Extending Bag Straps
Mulberry Tote Bag
The customer asked for the straps to be lengthened so they were able to wear the bag over their shoulder. Instead of extending the existing straps we decided to create new straps in the longer length. Visually the bag would look better this way.
Strap Repair - Broken Strap
Louis Vuitton Shoulder Bag
The strap on this Louis Vuitton bag had broken where it attached to the bag. To fix this I inserted a new piece of leather to join the broken ends and stitched this back together. The leather I used used slightly thicker so it created more strength in the strap to prevent it breaking again.
Strap Repair - Broken Straps
Small adjuster straps on a Louis Vuitton tote
The small straps which help to expand the tote bag had broken and fallen off. I re attached all of them to the small d-rings with some small stitches. I also made sure they all measured the same length before reattaching.
